URS Corporation Chooses ARC

The Washington DC Office of URS Corporation (URS) selected ARC’s Washington DC location as their strategic On-Site Services partner

URS Corporation (URS) is a leading provider of engineering, construction, and technical services for public agencies and private sector companies around the world. The company offers a full range of services: program management; planning, design, and engineering; systems engineering and technical assistance; construction and construction management; operations and maintenance; and decommissioning and closure services for power, infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and federal projects and programs.

Recently, URS’s Washington DC office selected ARC’s Washington DC location as their strategic On-Site Services partner. In March 2011, URS began soliciting bids to support their in-house print requirements, cost recovery, and document management. After careful analysis, many interviews, and site visits, the URS selection committee chose the ARC team to be their partner for the future.

ARC sat down for a chat with URS staffers Nancy Renfrow and Wendy Krones, and they elaborated on why they chose ARC and how the transition to ARC has been thus far.

What were some of the key factors for you when selecting ARC as your On-Site Services partner?

Initially, it was the caliber of past performance and the level of service provided on extremely high volume, high profile, complex projects with tight turnarounds, that we had outsourced to our local ARC branch location. Working with Antoinette, Alan Webb, and John Rusk at the Washington DC branch gave us a lot of confidence and trust in the level of service that ARC could provide. Additionally, the personalities, passion, knowledge, and energy that team ARC brought to the table truly separated them from the pack. Finally, we were quite pleased that ARC was in tune with our desire to maintain continuity in site staffing and the plotting equipment we had become accustomed to. ARC went out of their way to retain our on-site manager, Julio Garcia, and to keep our plotting equipment mix familiar. All of these efforts have led to happy customers throughout URS Washington DC.

How has the transition to ARC been for URS thus far?

Right out of the gate, the ARC team has demonstrated to us why we selected them in the first place; they were professional, knowledgeable, demonstrated a can-do attitude, and have been an overall pleasure to work with. Tony Ross and his team had a very short timeframe to make this transition happen, and while there were a few kinks that needed to be work out, under Tony’s direction, they were all taken care of in a timely manner and the overall transition went quite well. What we noticed most about ARC is that they really know their business and really took the time to understand ours, which has led to a successful partnership thus far. The personal touch of our account representative, who always has the customer in mind, has also helped to move the partnership forward.

How has ARC’s cost recovery print tracking solution, Abacus, been received by the end users at URS?

Our users have now gotten used to using the software. As with the implementation of any new software, we ran into a couple of bugs; however, Jonathan Hazzard, ARC IT Director has been able to find a solution to any and all of our initial Abacus concerns. He and his team have been terrific. When choosing ARC as our partner, one of our primary concerns was how Abacus would integrate with our accounting system and the ease of use for our accounting staff, as this has always been a consistent issue with previous vendors. Recently, in an email, our accounting Project Administrator, Yvette M. Shields Wilson had this to say about her experience with Abacus: “I have even more great news for a Monday! I started on the ARC June billing late Friday afternoon and completed it early this morning! It was so quick and easy that I feared that I dreamed all of it up. I have gone from two torturous weeks of weeping and gnashing of teeth, to one day! I really hope this is not a mirage, but if it is, I will just bask in the sunlight while I can. Thank you all for delivering me from, well, you know.” We think that sums it up pretty well!!
