For years, large-format printing has required trade-offs. Print providers have often had to balance durability against flexibility, productivity against media limitations, and performance against environmental considerations. AQUAFUZE™ technology represents a meaningful shift in that equation, introducing a new class of ink designed from the ground up to remove many of those long-standing compromises.
Developed by Fujifilm, AQUAFUZE takes a fundamentally different approach to ink formulation. Rather than modifying solvent, latex, or traditional UV chemistries, Fujifilm applied a materials science mindset to engineer an ink system that delivers UV-grade durability while preserving the advantages of water-based printing.
At the core of AQUAFUZE is a proprietary UV-curable emulsion that keeps reactive components stable in a water-based environment until curing occurs. This precise control at the molecular level allows the ink to cure efficiently using low-energy LED UV lamps, operating at significantly lower temperatures than many alternative technologies. As a result, print providers gain consistent image quality, strong adhesion across a wide variety of media, and the ability to print on heat-sensitive substrates without distortion or damage.
Another defining characteristic of AQUAFUZE is what it intentionally avoids. Unlike other water-based UV approaches, it does not rely on water-soluble photo-initiators or monomers that can break down over time. This chemistry-first decision improves ink stability, extends shelf life, and delivers dependable curing performance without the need for primers, optimizers, or additional coatings. For production teams, this means simpler workflows, fewer consumables, and less variability from job to job.
These scientific choices were guided by real-world production challenges. AQUAFUZE prints are ready for handling and finishing immediately after curing, eliminating delays common with solvent outgassing or high-heat latex processes. The low-odor formulation and absence of hazardous labeling also create a safer, more comfortable working environment, particularly in indoor or customer-facing spaces. Reduced energy requirements further support sustainability goals while helping control operating costs.
Because AQUAFUZE ink behaves differently than conventional systems, Fujifilm engineered a platform specifically to support it. The Acuity Triton TR is the first roll-fed printer designed to fully leverage AQUAFUZE technology, pairing advanced ink chemistry with precision hardware and controlled curing.
ARC is proud to be the authorized U.S. reseller of the Triton TR, providing customers with access to this next-generation printing platform backed by ARC’s nationwide sales, service, installation, and training teams. From initial demos to long-term support, ARC ensures that customers can confidently adopt AQUAFUZE technology and integrate it into their production environments.
AQUAFUZE is more than a new ink. It reflects a shift in how chemistry, hardware, and production demands intersect, helping print providers rethink what is possible in wide format printing today and into the future.
